While The Weather Outside is Frightfull....
(Best Bing Crosby voice) I’m dreaming of a white Halloween, just like the ones I never knew (or wished to) May your days, be full of light (If NYSEG pulls through, not probable) And may all your Halloweens be snow free and bright!     Well, since winter decided to show up early without an invitation this year. And yes, we broke records. Whoop dee do.     Since this happened though, we...

Siegfried
As you all may know, the Met has been reinventing Wagner’s Ring Cycle. (Das Rheingold, Die Walkure, Siegfried, Gotterdamerung) Now only having gotten really involved with opera a few years ago, I haven’t really touched on Wagner. Now we all know he is a master composer, but his music is like a two year old child. It’s intense and requires a massive amount of attention. This...

It's Been a Long Week
I’m sorry to let you all down like this, but I’m barely awake. It was just a long week. So, I decided to turn in early. So, I will post my opinion of the opera up to now.    I don’t really like Angela Meade now. Her voice isn’t full and lustrous the way Netrebko’s, Fleming’s or Voigt’s. The deepness isn’t there. I don’t know the musical...

Apparently Anne Boleyn is Guilty...
It seems that Anne Boleyn has been so taxing for Anna Netrebko, she has canceled tonight’s performances and Carnegie Hall appearances, for a 10 day rest period recommended by her doctor. So maybe Anne Boleyn is guilty. Of stealing Netrebko from us. However, we are in luck. Stepping in to Anna’s role tonight is the National Council Audition winner, Angela Meade. She is also scheduled...

And Nobody Died!
Barbiere just ended, and yes, I listened to the entire thing. I am delivering the review I promised.    I love that this opera has a happy ending. Coupled with the fact I thought the singing was stellar, for the most part. Camarena played our Conte. When he started, I was like “wow, disappointing and unenthusiastic” but by the end of the evening I was blown away. He just sang this...

Hi
Performance is going great and I’m laughing even in my room. Berta most certainly needs a Kleenex! Everyone sounds good! Review after the performance! Opera Teen

Quick Note
Just a quick note. Since Mattei filled in in Don Giovanni, he gets a rest night. That’s why he’s not singing tonight. He wasn’t sick or pulling an Angela Gheorghiu and just canceling. Enjoy and I’ll be back at intermission for another recap.

How to Get the Most Art out of Mozart
Hello. (Clever title don’t you think?) This evening, I will be reviewing the Barber of Seville, after many promises. I’m finally not busy! And, Rodion Pogossov will be singing Figaro. Even thought we love Mattei, we will have to manage. But anyway, I wanted to start this afternoon with a post that wasn’t totally live performance oriented. Let’s talk about Mozart.    ...

I'm Sorry
Hi everyone! I’m sorry to disappoint, but not being able to drive inhibits me from getting to the performance of Anna Bolena this weekend. I’ll make sure there’s something for me to review this weekend in place of that. Sorry again! Opera Teen

I WILL DO THIS!
I was intending to review Barbiere tonight, but it’s not on. Ces’t la vie. I’m going to see Anna Bolena Live in HD tomorrow so there will be a review of that tomorrow. On contrary to the teenage stereotype, I have an attention span and I intend to sit through the entire performance. I intend to review Barbiere it on the 19th so don’t give up on me yet. Sorry for all of...

What Stinks About Being Young...
You want to know what stinks about being young? You have to go to bed. Early. Because of this apparent fact, I will only be reviewing up to now in the opera. I’m sorry. So let’s get started.      To start, I love the direction. Interestingly enough, though, I’m not there. I’m sure others can hear characters climbing stairs and running up and down the stage. It sounds...

Don Giovanni
It’s that time of opera again. Where fans like up huddle next to radios, and eagerly anticipate a new production of the Mozartian calssic, Don Giovanni.    Unfortunately, tonight’s Giovanni will not be with star baritone Mariusz Kweichien (I don’t think I spelled that right…) as previously planned. It will be sung by the formidable Figaro of Peter Mattei. (This man is...

Wow...
What a fantastic day! Anna Netrebko is an extremely obliging diva and such a fine singer as well! I spent much of today in line, to even catch a glimpse of her. The Met handled the event so well!    We started our time at the Met in the garage. The one deep in the bowels of the world famous opera house. I assume people were sitting down since fifteen minutes of wondering if we were even...

Netrebko-mania!
The Met season is in full swing and Giovanni opens next week. (Look forward to a review) That means that Live in HD is right around the corner! It also means that stars are back in the operatic sky and Anna Netrebko is coming to the Met Opera Shop!!! I’m also trying to be able to see her in Live in HD, but not being able to drive inhibits this slightly… Anyway, I’m going to...

Maria Guleghina Can Play Anyone!
Maria Guleghina isn’t my favorite soprano, but she is right up there. She can play Turandot, and Abigaille. Tosca and Norma. That woman has one heck of a versatile voice. I think she performed spectacularly. I would like to see her live sometime soon, but not before I see Anna Netrebko. (DYING to see Manon this season)    The rest of the cast was wonderful as well. The chorus was...

I'm Not Dead!!!
So I have been absentee for a little bit. I’m sorry for that, and if anybody thought I was dead, (it has happened before) rest easy. I feel guilty though, I haven’t created a real post in quite a while, so I’ve decided to give you a present. (If that’s what you’d like to call it…) I haven’t been able to review Barbiere di Siviglia, so I want to provide...
